Seoraksan National Park
Address: Buk-myeon, Inje-gun, Gangwon-do
Also referred to as Seolsan and Seolbongsan, the mountain was named Seorak ('Seol' meaning 'snow' and 'Ak' meaning 'big mountain') because the snow would not melt for a long time keeping the rocks in a permanent state of white.
In November 1965, the Seorak Mountain district was designated as a Natural Monument preservation area. Afterwards in December 1973, it was designated as a park preservation area, and in August 1982, as a Biosphere Preservation District by UNESCO.

INYEON (in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do), Largest HANOK in Korea
The Korea's largest "hanok (traditional Korean house)" village in the middle of Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do has been there for hundreds of years. Today, you can see new as well as old houses there.
“Inyeon” is one of the traditional Korean houses located near the public parking lot on the outskirts of the hanok village, making it a great place to stay overnight in quiet. The word "inyeon" means "relationship" in Korean, referring to all types of ties with other people.
The owner of the guesthouse named the place as such because she is greatful for all the guests and wanted to treat them well. She opened the guesthouse in September 2014.
Since then, she has been kind enough to tell her guests which places are good to visit and which foods are delicious. She makes sure all the facilities including sheets and blankets are maintained clean for her guests to have a memorable stay. Built in the 1960's and remodeled in 2008, the traditional house is neat with most of the traditional features.
It has four guestrooms named "Apricot Flower", "Orchid", "Chrysenthemum", and "Bamboo". The "Orchid Room" and "Bamboo Room" can accommodate up to seven people. The floor is covered with lacquered traditional Korean paper, and there are a number of traditional items in the room including the Korean gong. The traditional Korean ceiling rafters are visible in all the rooms.
All the rooms are furnished with a bathroom, air conditioner, TV, refrigerator, toiletries, and hair dryer. There is a 200-year-old pomegranate tree in the yard, and a table and chairs right in front of it for the guests to relax on a fair day. The table made of an old door and chairs made of a log under the red pomegranates are one of the most outstanding features of this guesthouse.
There are lots of traditional items in the yard with which you can play traditional Korean games such as "yutnori" and "jegichagi", all of which can be used by the guests for free.

Kimchi is a fermented dish made with vegetables and a variety of seasoning ingredients. At a time when storage methods were not well-developed, kimchi was an important source of vitamins in the winter, when fresh vegetables were unavailable.
There are over three hundred varieties, but when it was first made prior to the Three Kingdoms Period (AD 57-668), it required a very simple recipe of salting and storing napa cabbage in a ceramic container for fermentation.
Some kimchi are even made into other kinds of food such as Kimchi Fried Rice, Kimchi Pizza, etc.
What was originally a simple salted pickle has now become a complex dish requiring assorted seasonings and varies according to climate, geographical conditions, local ingredients, methods of preparation, and preservation.

Bibimbap, or cooked rice mixed with vegetables, sautΓ©ed beef, and twigak (dried seaweed or vegetables fried in oil) is one of the definitive Korean meals. There are three common beliefs about the origin of bibimbap.
One theory is that it stemmed from the practice of mixing bap (cooked rice) with other dishes used for the ancestral rite of eumbok.
Others say that bibimbap originated from mixing leftovers together as a midnight snack on Lunar New Year’s Eve.
The last theory is that farmers out working the fields would each bring a portion of food to be mixed together for meals and divided out evenly.

Bulgogi is prepared by marinating thin slices of beef in a sweet soy sauce mix before grilling them. Bulgogi is a high-class meal, only being served in the royal court and yangban (noble) households in the past.
Bulgogi originated from a dish called maekjeok.
Maek was the name of the northeast region of China and a reference to Goguryeo, one of the earliest Korean kingdoms.
Maekjeok is made with barbecued beef skewers, and according to folklore, evolved into present-day bulgogi through the introduction of grills, which made skewers obsolete.

Originally, tteokbokki was not a spicy dish. In the royal courts of Joseon, it was prepared by simmering beef, carrots, onions, pyogo (shitake mushroom), and other ingredients together with rice cakes in soy sauce. The colorful ingredients made it visually appealing as well as nutritional.
It is believed that tteokbokki seasoned with spicy gochujang paste first appeared in the 1950s and became widely popular in the following years.
